OF GUILE  A POEM

Thickly in it all waded Captain Achilles, deep in buckets of blood. Their blood, rendering Achilles the hero of this their deadliest hour. Removing his combat blade from the gut of a foe, its jagged bladed edge tore more flesh off and ruptured guts away, as it exited the bloody belly wound it had caused. His foe fell, like an apple from the tree of life into the rubble once called Rockefeller Plaza, in the last century fondly remembered as the romantic age of plenty. Achilles swung a laser rifle from back to front, its strap was red, icky red as it slid around his shoulder it left a slick strip of blob red, his nameless foes’ juvenile blood. Accreting more honor upon Captain Achilles as he pressed the fire pad button with his thick right thumb over and over again until the door to the edifice rumored to be an archetype of western hegemony from a very long time ago, was blasted off and away. Achilles pointed to three of his most trusted battalion, “Ajax, Odysseus and you beloved Patroclus, follow me,” said he.

And so, all did, laser weapons held aloft, into the rubble of the ninety-three story Rockefeller tower, barely erect, hazardous smoke and dust spewing up from dysfunctional magnificent machinery, doing what it was not designed to do; an edifice shamelessly abused by vicious acts ongoing in this godless battle of human upon human.

THE MUSIC OF TARK SNOWDEL

Originally published under the title: THE TIME TRAVELER, subtitled: The Music of Tark Snowdel:
Tark
is a delicate often poetic novella length sci-fi story set between 2068 and 2126 and attempts to imagine life and society from the perspective of L’Oréal Snowdel, a young citizen of England whose entire life is lived on a futuristic train. The story follows L’Oréal’s life over a 30+ year period as she raises her son, Tark, destined to be a musical genius.
Her story is partially narrated by
Luthien Clarke (son of Ellen & Ronan Clarke in the sci-fi novel Rise), a time traveler from the first half of the 21st century, and poses the question: did Luthien’s appearance impact the course of L’Oréal’s life and in particular her son, Tark’s life as his magical music unwittingly attracts love in the form of an Enhanced super assassin, Sylph da Silva, ironically from the same time period as Luthien? Sylph falls in love with Tark and together they have twins, Silesia and Shra whose lives become the subject of the epic trilogy Macrolis.
Another
thought-provoking novella from genetic engineering hard sci-fi writer Mark Miller, the author many sci-fi titles including: Mi; Rise; Diana; and the epic trilogy, Macrolis

Tark attempts to reimagine time travel and its inevitable effects on the mind and mundanity of our future selves.

LIKE MAGNETS  AN EXCERPT READ BY THE AUTHOR

Look, DeWitt, begins its final cycle, came thought from Onyx, pointing up at the smart star’s top as it slipped below the distant horizon. Dark fell quickly blanketing the place the heroes gathered.

Trine’s cycle will be difficult this time around. I love the darkness of Organon, it is like freedom. Liberation from seeing, a break from light and color. Shadows can be soothing, darkness, inspiring. As form is found instead within mind. How I miss the peace of anonymity, the moments of being forgotten. Drifting through the darkness without fear, without concern. With Methode’s hand in mine, just the hum and beat of our Enhanced hearts in harmony. Being left alone in the darkness, a heaven to my heart’s soul. Like traveling through wormholes from one world to another, no time, no friction. No need to be a part of it just passing through. The days of my adventures, Shonyxil and I, those moments of wishing. Searching, desiring, love. My Methode’s love, and to get it, and like a forest it grew beyond the range of my mind. The days of my drifting. Alone, weightlessly, and aloof, ends. We cannot help but attract one another, like magnets are we. The Organet, Micronet and Humankinds. I thought this was not true but look how far I brought my love to get away from it all. To live in love, alone, out of sight. Despite it all. In this cycle I return from all I fled, but like magnets, it all follows me here. Tell me, be honest: We are like magnets are we not? she turned to Julá and Shera,
